Robbery suspect charged with burglaries

One of two men arrested Saturday for last week’s Portland Street carjacking has been charged with two residential burglary cases.

Jacoby Carter, 17, of Shreveport is charged with burglary and attempted burglary for incidents that occurred at 3821 Marrow and 3825 Marrow on Jan. 17.

Carter already was in jail on a charge of armed robbery for the Feb. 15 carjacking of 19-year-old Kenneth Bernette Jr.

Carter was arrested on a warrant Saturday, as was Maranto "Big Mouth" Johnson, 21, of Shreveport. Johnson was charged with principal to armed robbery in connection with the carjacking incident.

The carjacking occurred at 1:25 a.m. in the 3700 block of Portland after Bernette gave Carter and Johnson a ride from a party. One of the suspects put a gun to the victim’s head and Bernette moved away from the vehicle.

Bernette’s car, a 1985 blue Monte Carlo, was recovered later that morning.
