Animal control to check pets at Mardi Gras

Caddo Parish Animal Control is teaming up with the Shreveport Police Department to make sure residents comply with animal control laws during this weekend’s Mardi Gras parade.

Residents who bring their dogs to the parade must have proof that the dog has been vaccinated for rabies. All dogs that are 3 months or older are required to have a rabies vaccination. The tag that proves the rabies vaccination must be present with the animal.

All dogs must also be on a leash. No dogs will be allowed to roam freely throughout the parade route.

"We want to ensure the safety of the citizens of Shreveport by having licensed animals on leashes during parades and other festivals in our city," said Jim Roberts, Chief of Police.

Pet owners who violate animal control laws can be ticketed, forced to take their pets home or in extreme cases, have their animal seized.
