Captain to be honored Friday

Mooretown resident Lucy James believes she would be dead by now if it weren’t for the efforts and assistance she received by Shreveport Police Capt. Charles Owens.

As commander of Area 3, which includes Mooretown, Owens helped reduce crime, decrease the number of drive-by shootings, take drug dealers off the streets and assist parents and families in the community.

While the work is something accomplished by many police officers citywide, James wanted to say a public thank you to Owens for the special attention she says he gave Mooretown.

The event takes place at 11 a.m. today on the second floor of the Shreveport Police Facility (in the former City Council Chamber). Afterward, a barbecue lunch will be served, compliments of Lucy James.
