Elementary student hit in school crossing zone

A 34-year-old Shreveport woman was ticketed for careless and reckless operation of her car after striking a 6-year-old boy who was crossing the street.

Tony Murray, 6, was crossing Hearne Avenue to get to Queensborough Elementary School this morning when Sharon Dixon of Shreveport struck the child. Dixon was headed northbound on Hearne Avenue and reportedly did not see the school crossing guard, who was standing in the middle of the street.

The boy saw the crossing guard and entered the street without noticing the oncoming car.

Murray was taken to LSU Health Sciences Center.
