Shreveport, Bossier police donate $1,000 to New York widows

Officers in the Shreveport and Bossier City police departments teamed up to raise money for the New York City Police Officers Benevolent Association Widow’s and Children’s Fund.

A $1,000 check was mailed to the organization today – money that was raised from the sale of Sept. 11 memorial t-shirts.

The t-shirts, proudly worn by members of both Shreveport and Bossier City police departments, feature both police patch designs and a special logo depicting the New York police patch with black memorial band, the state of Louisiana and a crumbling Twin Tower with a police officer bearing the brunt of its fall.

"As sister cities, we joined together as agents, detectives, officers, dispatchers, sergeants and lieutenants to show our pride for fellow officers who made the ultimate sacrifice on that tragic morning," said SPD Officer Shannon Mack. "We are very mindful that there were many families, agencies, businesses and emergency services affected on that fateful day. We only hope that our monetary donation can make one worried brow lift up in the face of encouragement."

Mack led the effort for SPD, while her husband, Officer Thomas Mack of Bossier City, led the effort for BCPD. Five dollars was collected for New York from the sale of each shirt.

"This t-shirt was designed by a police officer, sold to police officers, and worn solely by them and those they love," Mack added. "It is truly a representation of our gratitude."
