Cross Lake serves as the City's drinking water supply source,

Cross Lake HatcheryThe city has two full time Environmental Control Officers who are responsible for patrolling the lake and surrounding watershed to ensure that potential pollution threats to the lake are under control. They are based at the City's fish hatchery, and also oversee operations at the hatchery, which is funded jointly by the City and BassLife.

Cross Lake is currently experiencing problems with non-native aquatic weeds, namely Hydrilla. Click here to access a PDF report recently prepared by Centenary College discussing the problem and proposed solutions. The City is utilizing this report in order to develop management plans for this issue. Funding for the study was provided through the Community Foundation of Shreveport-Bossier.

CD Rom GraphicThrough funding from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the City has developed an interactive CD on Cross Lake and its surrounding watershed. The CD was geared primarily toward middle school age children, but contains a wealth of information which all ages should enjoy and find informative. The CD has been formatted for the internet, although some of the videos and graphics could not be reproduced with the same degree of detail and quality as the CD - click here to get a taste. If you'd like a copy of the CD (and subject to availability), contact the Department of Operational Services at (318) 673-7660.
