Shreveport Department of Operational Services

OUR MISSION

To monitor and provide guidance on environmental and regulatory affairs affecting all offices of the Department of Operational Services,

To protect public health and the environment;

To protect our drinking water supply source, Cross Lake and the Cross Lake Watershed;

To implement programs to maintain and improve local air quality;

To regulate industrial discharges to the city's sanitary sewer system;

To administer the city's Stormwater Quality Management Program;

And to monitor and provide guidance and support to all offices of the Department on safety practices.

The Environmental Affairs Office was originally created to serve as an independent quality control agency and regulatory monitoring authority for the Water & Sewerage Department.

With the creation of the Department of Operational Services in 1999, the regulatory and compliance support provided by the Office of Environmental Affairs has been extended to all areas of the new Department, and includes such areas as air quality, city owned underground storage tanks,and other areas which affect the environment. Our Office staff includes:

      The Industrial Pretreatment section,
      The Stormwater section,
      The Cross Lake Watershed Management section,
      as well as Safety and Regulatory Compliance personnel.
