The Annual Mayor Glover’s Award of Service Excellence

"Life's most persistent and urgent question is, 'What are you doing for others?"
— Martin Luther King Jr. —

Each year, Shreveport Mayor Cedric B. Glover, his Executive Staff and Department Heads are among the thousands of volunteers that eagerly take part in Paint Your Heart Out.  “Citizen Involvement is essential to effective local government,” says Mayor Glover.  In addition to providing a needed service to the homes of our elderly and disabled citizens, Paint Your Heart Out is much like a giant magnet that draws people together from all parts of the city in harmony and in service to others. Because of Paint Your Heart Shreveport is a better city – a better looking city.”

To award the organization that has the most volunteers registered and involved on Paint Day, Mayor Glover presents his Award of Service Excellence.  Last year, the award was proudly given to the men and women of Barksdale Air Force Base.  With the largest number of volunteers than any other organization, Barksdale’s volunteers totaled 680!
