Background Information

Northwest Louisiana Youth Golf and Education Foundation, Inc. dba First Tee of Northwest Louisiana is the local sponsor of the First Tee Junior Golf Program ("First Tee"). First Tee is a unique and innovative youth golf program that combines fundamental instruction in the game of golf with life skills training. The program is open to all youth of the City however, special effort will be made to recruit participants who may not otherwise have an opportunity to learn the sport of golf.

Upon execution of this agreement First Tee of Northwest Louisiana will manage and maintain Jerry Tim Brooks Golf Course.

RESOLUTION NO. _____ OF 2009

A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR TO EXECUTE AN AGREEMENT WITH NORTHWEST LOUISIANA YOUTH GOLF AND EDUCATION FOUNDATION, INC. DBA FIRST TEE OF NORTHWEST LOUISIANA AND TO OTHERWISE PROVIDE WITH RESPECT THERETO.

BY:

WHEREAS, City and Northwest Louisiana Youth Golf and Education Foundation, Inc. dba First Tee of Northwest Louisiana now desire to enter into an Agreement for management of Jerry Tim Brooks Golf Couse.

WHEREAS, City owns and operates Jerry Tim Brooks Golf Course, a public golf course located at 2200 Milam; and

WHEREAS, First Tee has been instrumental in promoting interest in the sport of golf to the public and particularly to junior players at Golf Courses and has operated a successful junior golf program at the City’s golf courses and other course around the City for a number of years; and

WHEREAS, First Tee has offered to partner with the City to operate Jerry Tim Brooks Golf Course for and on behalf of the City; and

WHEREAS, it is in the best interest of the City to accept such offer.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Shreveport in due, legal and regular session convened that the Mayor is authorized to execute an agreement with Northwest Louisiana Youth Golf and Education Foundation, Inc. dba First Tee of Northwest Louisiana (First Tee), substantially in accordance with the draft attached hereto and filed for public inspection with the Office of the Clerk of Council on November 10, 2009.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that if any provision or item of this resolution or the application thereof is held invalid, such invalidity shall not affect other provisions, items or applications of this resolution which can be given effect without the invalid provisions, items or applications and to this end the provisions of this resolution are hereby declared severable.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that all ordinances or resolutions or parts thereof in conflict herewith are hereby repealed.
